Ugh, so I was at pretty much about to cut off my own head until maybe fifteen minutes ago. I went to Jamba Juice today to fill out the necessary paperwork and get briefed by the GM about what I'm expected to do, which wasn't too terrible. However, she needed my SS card, and as this is my first job ever, I didn't know it'd be required. Fine, whatever, not a big deal. I went to my mom's house and called her, since she's currently on the east coast (but is coming back tonight) and asked her where my card and/or birth certificate was. Her response?

"Oh, I took it with me."

WUT.

After much searching and a few tears on my part (since I tend to panic when important documents are lost), I find my SS card because evidently my mother was mistaken. Great. Then I remember that I have to get a health card 'cause I'm going to be working around food, which is, you know, expected. Fine, whatever. My GM mentioned something about getting a voucher for the health card because otherwise I'll be out fifty bucks. Fine, whatever. So I go to the Henderson health care center and fill out an application doohickey, then after about ten minutes my number's called and I'm seen by someone. I mention the voucher and the nice lady behind the counter tells me to go to the Job Connect over on Water Street. Everything's peachy keen up to this point. Then I get to Job Connect and ask very nicely if they give out vouchers for health cards.

Them: "Well, we do, but only if you work thirty or more hours a week."
Me: "I'm sorry, but I haven't even started working."
Them: "You need to do that first."
Me: "I CAN'T START WORK IF I DON'T HAVE A HEALTH CARD."

So I go back to Jamba Juice and tell my GM what's going on, and she was just like, "Don't worry about it, we always get the runaround." Luckily for me, she was awesome enough to fill out a form for me and put some of the things I needed for work on there so I could get money for those too. Then I went to Rubio's and got carry-out, and now I'm sitting here eating one of their fabulous salads.

Just one of those days, but at least it worked itself out.

...well, it's not like I've got anything better to do.

Today I saw my favorite cousin, and it was awesome 'cause I haven't seen him in what seems like years. He's more of a brother to me than a cousin, really. We've been close ever since I was a toddler, but we haven't really been in touch lately because we're both super busy -- after all, we're on different sides of the country, he's got a bunch of high school kids to teach, and I'm almost always swamped with homework. When I saw him today, it really brought home how much I missed him, and it was a nice feeling just hanging out with him again. It seems like we're only a few years apart, but he'll be thirty come June, and I'll be pushing nineteen.

I wish I could trade my real brother in for him.
